With all high performance 2 stroke engines for maximum performance it’s essential to achieve the optimum squish setting.

This is the distance between the piston crown & cylinder head at top dead centre around the periphery.

It’s checked in the following way.

Put 4 dabs of grease on the piston crown, equi spaced around the periphery.

Now get 4 pieces of solder about 2mm thick.

Place these onto the grease, fully tighten the cylinder head without any

o-rings.

Engines using a head gasket I generally set the squish on the old (used) head gasket

Wind the engine over until it turns free.

Now remove the cylinder head & measure the squashed solder with either a micrometer or vernier caliper.

Adjust or machine as necessary.
