Steve Ingham is an experienced Formula One Engine builder, originally for Ilmor Engineering (Mercedes Mclaren) with over 20 years F1 experience the latter part of Steve's F1 career was spent as an R&D design engineer at Honda F1.
Steve settled in Australia in 2008 and within a year started F1motoa Motorcycle Performance Company specialising in Performance Tuning and Racing Motorbike Parts. F1moto offers many services to Motorcycle riders and racers all over the world together with a huge range of Motorbike parts in our Motorcycle Parts online store and at our Motorcycle Workshop in Appin NSW. F1moto’s motorbike workshop offers specialised engineering services such as Cylinder Repairs, Crank Rebuilds, Cylinder re-bores, Porting not the usual Motorbike workshop’s conventional servicing and maintenance. At F1 Moto we use our state-of-the-art Dynojet 250i Dyno to test, tune and diagnose dirt bikes, road bikes, track bikes and fuel-injected bikes.
Based in Appin, south of Sydney, the team at F1 Moto is your local expert. We use the latest industry-standard WinPep8 Software and all dyno testing is carried out in our dyno cell for an optimal testing environment.

1. CYLINDER REPAIR AND REPLACEMENT
At F1moto we offer a range of Cylinder and Cylinder Head specialised services.
Reconditioning Nikasil Plated Cylinders
Nikasil plated cylinders are used on most modern 4 stroke and 2 stroke engines. This is a plating process that differs from the old style of reconditioning using a steel sleeve or liner. With this process, the existing Nikasil plating is stripped and the cylinder is then replated to Manufacturer’s standard A size piston. Your cylinder may be damaged or it could just be that the Nikasil plating has worn through use. Either way, we can repair and recondition the cylinder in most cases.
Normal replating costs $430.00 AUD including return postage within Australia. If your cylinder has additional damage this may be extra. Please send us photos of any damage so we can evaluate for cylinder repair.
Steel lined cylinders can be re-bored depending on the existing size of the cylinder and what oversize pistons are available.
If you are unsure if your cylinder is Nikasil plated or Steel lined use a magnet to determine the inside of the cylinder.
Steel lined cylinders can be quoted on an individual basis.
Four-stroke cylinder head reconditioning is available at F1moto. We can strip and replace valves, recut valve seats, port cylinder heads, and flow tests with our Superflow 110 flow bench.

In addition to cylinder head repairs and cylinder replating we offer a wide range of new cylinder kits and big bore kits which include cylinders, piston kits, gasket kits and in some cases new cylinder heads and power valves.

If you are unsure whether your cylinder has worn too much or just wants your cylinder measured for correct piston sizing F1moto offers a free measuring service for customers purchasing Engine Rebuild Kits and Piston kits.
F1moto offers a crankshaft reconditioning service – cost $150.00 plus the cost of a quality replacement conrod kit. Connecting Rod kits are usually Prox but we can supply Wossner Con Rods, Carillo Con Rods and Hot Rods Connecting Rod Kits.
We have a range of crank weights sometimes called stuffers for KTM, Husqvarna, Yamaha and Kawasaki dirt bikes which can be incorporated in your crankshaft rebuild.
We can re-condition exchange or supply a new engine crankshaft from stock to suit your needs.
Inertia & crank balance is a big part of overall motorcycle performance – adding crank weights or stuffers changes the OEM inertia of the crank making the power supplied much smoother and corner speed more efficient. F1moto is a pioneer of the Long Rod kits for KTM/Husqvarna and Yamaha dirt bikes.
Long Rod kits are not the same as stroker crankshafts as they do not change the CC of the engine but only give longer dwell time at top dead center thus providing a more stable and balanced engine with much less vibration.
An example of this is the latest KTM 125 known for its bad vibration – F1moto long rod kits are and effective solution to overcome this.

3. 2 STROKE PERFORMANCE PORTING
Porting is the process of optimising the shape & size of all ports to enable the engine to 'breathe' to maximum potential. Good porting to any 2 stroke cylinder gains horsepower and improved the performance of your two-stroke engine.
Steve Ingham has many years of experience porting cylinders for racing applications in many different forms including Yamaha 2 Stroke engines. F1moto ported cylinders are used in MX, Enduro, Road Race, Speedway, Dirt track and Sprint/Super Karts. We have also been involved in land speed record attempts.
We provide this in-house service and welcome all retail & trade enquiries.
Two-stroke engine cylinder porting starts at $400.00.
Full dyno turning services are available at our facility in Appin NSW.
4. 4 STROKE PERFORMANCE PORTING
Four-stroke engine cylinder head porting also improves the volumetric efficiency of the engine be it naturally aspirated or boosted. Your 4 stroke cylinder can be ported, serviced and flow tested for maximum performance gains. Both Titanium and Steel replacement valves are available, seat cutting services are also offered by F1moto at our Dyno tune center in Appin NSW.
All our specialist services are fully supported by testing; we have a flow bench for testing cylinder heads after porting and a Dynojet 250i full motorbike dyno with Winpep8 software for the most advanced dyno tuning in the Sydney area.
5. SUPER FLOW CYLINDER HEAD PORT FLOW DESIGN, DEVELOPMENT AND TESTING
F1moto uses industry-standard design and engine test software to develop, test and validate cylinder head porting and machining and cylinder head reconditioning. Our SuperFlow equipment is available to flow test any porting to ensure the very best service for our customers.
Cylinder head machining services are available together with calculated forecasts and simulations using CAD design software.
6. HIGH-PERFORMANCE CAMSHAFTS AND PISTONS
We offer a range of High-performance Camshafts both stages 1 and 2 for most 4 stroke engines. OEM replacement valves, steel valve conversion kits, and high-quality performance valve train components are available in both our engine rebuild kits and individually. High compression piston kits are available to accompany high overlap cams. F1moto can offer the most leading brands of piston kits including JE, CP, Wiseco, Wossner, ProX, Vertex.
F1moto can tailor your 2 stroke engine and 4 stroke engine performance needs to suit your budget and offer wide range options either bolt-on horsepower gains or specialist services and dyno testing.
7. CYLINDER HEAD SERVICE
F1moto offers a full range of 4 stroke cylinder head service options including cylinder head machining, cylinder head servicing, specialist welding, Valve Seat Cutting and Valve assembly.
All our cylinder head servicing is carried out to racing standards. We can supply a full range of Valvetrain products with both Titanium and Steel valve options to suit all riding applications from bush to track.
Machining cut valve seats and quality valve assembly ensure your cylinder head service is F1 standard.
8. CUSTOM GASKETS
If you have a rare or obsolete engine we can help with custom, laser-cut Gaskets to your required thickness and format. Our in house laser cutting machine is the perfect machine to make custom gaskets including all paper gaskets made from high-quality automotive gasket paper in the range of thickness. We can supply custom made gaskets by scanning your cases. Aluminum cylinder spacers can be made to order (minimum quantities may apply).
If your paper gaskets are no longer available for VMX or Vintage bikes then contact us for custom gaskets and custom made head gaskets.
9. CUSTOM PART DESIGN & MANUFACTURE
F1moto manufactures a range of billet aluminum products such as crank stuffers, oversized water pumps, clutch, and ignition covers and power valve arms.
Using state of the art 3d Cad modeling software we can design and manufacture custom parts for your Motorbike engine. Reverse Engineering and part prototyping are available for all sectors of the motorcycle and automotive industry.
F1moto can design and manufacture custom parts including piston kits.
Minimum quantities apply however these may be as low as 2 – 10 units.
